The 2011 Alan Missen Oration was part of the Melbourne Writers Festival, taking place on

This Conference is an outcome from an Australian Research Council Grant
entitled Applying Human Rights Legislation In Closed Environments: A Strategic
Framework for Managing Compliance (2008-2012). The project is being undertaken
by four Chief Investigators (Professor Arie Freiberg, Dr Bronwyn Naylor, Dr Stuart
Thomas and Dr Julie Debeljak), a Partner Investigator (Dr Inez Dussuyer), and six
collaborating organisations: the Commonwealth Ombudsman; Ombudsman Victoria; the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission; the Office of the Public Advocate (Vic); the Office of the Inspector of Custodial Services (WA); and the Office of Police Integrity (Vic).

LIBERTY Victoria hosts and a number of events throughout the year. 

Liberty presents the annual Alan Missen Oration in memory of the late Senator Alan Missen. In 2010 Liberty joined forces with the Melbourne Writers Festival. Previous Orators include Frank Moorhouse, the Rev. Tim Costello, Waled Aly, Anne Funder, David Marr, Fred Chaney, Senator Bob Brown, and Julian Burnside.

Liberty holds a number of other events each year, from film night fundrasiers, public speaking events, book launches, and events to support other organisations such as the Human Rights and Arts Film Festival; the Victorian Law Foundation's Law Week, Refugee Week, and more. 

In addition Liberty hosts seminars, forums, volunteer evenings and other events focused on issues to do with civil liberties and human rights.
